Astatine - free jazz valentine (2011, Orgasm)

The only thing which competes with the quality of the Acetate Zero discography is their lack of recognition mainly due to an absence of self-promotion. Their last album as example has been only released on vinyl. 

At least they achieved a certain form of underground recognition and most diehard fans of 90 indie styles of music such as slowcore, lo-fi or shoegazing know them. 

Acetate Zero - crestfallen (2004, Arbouse)

“Cresfallen” is third album by this Parisian indie band. If I used to sing their praise, from “Softcore Paradise” to “Ground Altitude”, and about their ep “Somehow about perfection”, this is where I'll become more difficult, more critical regarding their release.

Acetate Zero - civilize the satanists (2008, Arbouse)

Two years ago, Elsa Diot, one of the five members of this french band released her first solo ep under the Monovalley alias. An impressive short collection of songs much more intimate and emotional than the production of Acetate Zero.

If their was an aura of mystery around Acetate Zero, the “Deception Island” ep came with a few responses and new questions, new promises. On this new album, and with ten years of existence, Acetate Zero quietened their shoegaze and noisy guitar exploration, added more focus on the ethereal atmospheres, using monotony and contemplation as a way to translate autumnal melancholy.

When I discovered the French band Acetate Zero with their first album “Softcore Paradise” in 1999, I’ve been directly under the charm of Elsa Diot’s voice, hoping that she would take more place in the future of the band. But even if the following discography of this always underestimated band is more than recommended, this particular fact never happened, Acetate Zero always worked as a band.

Acetate Zero - somehow about perfection (Clairecords, 2005)

Acetate Zero - ground altitude (Arbouse, 2002)

On s’était toujours dit qu’on prendrait la pleine mesure des Parisiens d’Acetate Zero sur leur premier album réel et officiel.

Voilà il est enfin là, s’étendant sur près de cinquante trois minutes et constitué de quatorze titres, ‘Ground Altitude’ vient de sortir sur le label français Arbouse Recordings qu’on connaît surtout pour leur compilation ‘Bucolique n°1’ déjà chroniquée en ces pages.

Acetate Zero - softcore paradise (Orgasm, 1999)

No info sur Acetate Zero ou à peine. A peine. Peut-être les choses vont-elles changer avec ce nouvel album sur Arbouse Recordings qui sera là bientôt, qui est presque là.

Une discographie qui traîne, regroupée, sur une page web, pour se dire qu’on en a manqué des trucs, qu’on était autre part. Pour râler plus qu’autre chose, parce que ce n’est pas de notre faute d’avoir presque toujours raté un des meilleurs groupes français de ces dernières années.

Acetate Zero - pieces in trouble (Arbouse, 2000)

Attention, probable groupe mythique en devenir.

Acetate Zero est un trio français, auteur d’un album « Softcore Paradise » sorti sur Orgasm en 1999. Celui-ci est sorti seulement à 200 exemplaires vinyles, ce qui explique son quasi anonymat, mais bénéficiera bientôt d’une réédition CD sur la label californien Slumberland.
